Global Media and Information Literacy Week 2016

The fifth annual global celebration of Media and Information Literacy (MIL) Week will take place from 31 October to 5 November, 2016. The Global MIL Week 2016 highlights include the Sixth Media and Information Literacy and Intercultural Dialogue (MILID) Conferenceand the First General Assembly of the Global Alliance for Partnerships on Media and Information Literacy (GAPMIL), taking place November 2-5, 2016 in São Paulo, Brazil.

The Global MIL Week activities and conference are important opportunities for stakeholders globally, including members of GAPMIL and the International University MILID Network to meet and share the latest research, projects, new ideas and information with a diverse gathering of stakeholders involved in information and media literacy, and in print, screen-based and digital media.

Media and information literacy (MIL) includes a set of competencies to search, critically evaluate, use and contribute information and media content wisely; knowledge of one’s rights online; understanding how to combat online hate speech and cyberbullying; understanding of the ethical issues surrounding the access and use of information; and engage with media and ICTs to promote equality, free expression, intercultural/interreligious dialogue, peace, etc. (UNESCO)
